POST 1: An intro to my WLE: January 6th

I did not go to my shadow internship because I had just got the internship and I did not have enough for warning to get to go intern in his class room. My mentor is a kindergarten teacher for Longwood Elementary. His name is Martin Mac An Gohill  and he is expecting me to help him with his curriculum and projects. The location of the school is Hespairain and Longwood in Hayward. I got the internship by first getting connected to the principal and asking her. We emailed each other a couple of times and i then got connected to Mr. Mac An Ghoill. I called him and he agreed to become my mentor.

 Post 2:

The first day of my internship went really well. I first got there and started to sort papers and help Mr.Richard my mentors other helper. I also  did mini group seasons with four or five children at a time. I helped with math and literate part of their curriculum. I helped the children with the better understanding of addition, their letters and spelling their names. I impressed my mentor by showing my patience with the children, and the constiences helping anyone that needed it.
I also learned a little Spanish but I know I need to get better to better communicate with the children. I was working the whole time either with Mr. Richard or the children, I didn't ever get a down time because the kids always were asking for help on something. The one question I have for my mentor is: How do I discipline when they are doing something when their not soppoes to?. For my advisor would ask: Are my time okay?

Post 5: Helping out

A skill I couldn’t learn at school that I learned at my internship is dealing with small children. It really helped me have the ability to talk and help them. I didn’t really think that it was an issue until my first class. I think it’s really important to know how to talk to children because if you do know it’s so much easier to teach and for them to learn.

A skill I am developing in my internship is how to help multiple people at once and how to communicate productively because the students are mainly Spanish speaking. These are important because I now know how to get my point across even without knowing Spanish. It is a growing process and I still get over whelmed at accessions but I have gotten so much better. The talking and helping more than one person is a good life skill because it gets work done faster and it is good multitasking.

The role as a student is very different then the role I am at in my intern. At a school I am a student myself and at my intern I am the teacher that helps and gives instructions to the students. It’s the opposite really. I think it has helped me greatly because I can understand how hard it is for my teachers, how hectic it can get.

Post 6:Grading Myself for WLE

For my WLE I believe I should get a two or three. I believe this because I am doing very well at my internship but I am not doing the blogs really. I always forget about them and it never really happens.  That s for leadership skills. For metacongnition I am doing well because I have gotten better at helping the children and I remember how for each issue that arises with the kids. Application on knowledge is when they do something bad I know how to address it and I know how to relatively teach a lesson. College work habits I am doing well at because I always have my materials, I am never late except once and I am present the whole day. Lastly for mastery of knowledge I am working on making a lesson plan for the kids

Post 7: Different WLE

The things I could do to make my blog effective is to analyzer better and talk more deeply about what I learned.  It seems like most are blogging and some aren’t at all. Then it seems like others are infrequent. Off and on doing the blogs. I can’t really help anyone because I myself forget all the time. I am learning about average what other are. It doesn’t show because I haven’t done all the blogs but I know I have learned a lot but not as much as other because they are in a different setting. I am still interested in my WLE because it’s always different. Always something new the children learn or want to do. Its structured but new things happen all the time. I do need to get more hours but I will figure that out. The new thing we did today was painting! They loved to paint and figure out new ways to paint. Like using a crane to stop the water colors from mixing. It was really cool. They made rainbows and one free paint to bring home.

POST 8: Analyzing my Workplace

At my work place there are usually three adults, Mr. Martin, Mr. Rich, and myself. There are twenty-six students. It’s slightly difficult because its hard to help all twenty six of the students but with three of us its usually fine. It can get crazy once in a great while but that doesn’t last. It helps me multitask better but other people that are doing WLE they might not get that skill.  Mr. Martin is the main head and then Mr. Rich and me have similar powers but Mr. Rich would go next because of his experience. I am happy with my boss or bosses because they are cool and they are good teachers. Yes its professional because there are certain ways to act but its also very laid back because there isn’t a dress code or things like that. Both Mr. Rich and Mr. Martin both went to college. I enjoy working with them because they are smart and I can have good conversations and I learn a lot.

Post 9: How its Going

Post 10: My hours

I am not on track at this moment but I plan to have all my hours by the end of the year.  I roughly have fifty hours and plane to work somewhere else to make up the hours.  I don’t think I will have all the hours by then so I plane to discuss my issue with my advisor and Joel. I worked in the class room and help Mr. Martin. We painted today which the kids love to do. My mentor was instructing the class the whole time and I was helping with papers, the class in general and behavior issues. I am not sure about the WLE project at this moment.

POST 12:  How my WLE project is going

For this week at my WLE we had a substitute teacher and the class was some what caotic. The kids are only five or six so when something new come in it is hard for them to concentrate and do their work. I helped run the class and helped with the lesson. I also I prepared work sheets for the up coming lessons.  I am working in a kindergarten class at Longwood Elementary. I am not exactly concreted with an idea for my WLE project just yet. I am working out what I am going to be presentation. I plan to finish my WLE and make a presentation of my learning. I am going to be talking with my adviser and other staff to make a concrete plan. I am behind in my hours and I plan to work at the Hayward Public Library after school on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Post 13: How my WLE project is Going

At my internship I helped with lesson plane, on organizing papers and helped the kids with problems between them. Today I talked to my mentor about my project and told him my planes for my project and how I plane to present it to the kids. I plane to get the project presented then make my key not presentation.  I plane to have all my hours by the end of the year.

Post 14: Almost done

I plane to write him a letter and bring in browns. I am not really sure what type of food I am going to be bringing for the potluck. I honestly haven’t even heard of it. I did the usual helped the kids out and Mr. martin with the lesson and behavior. I made up the lesson plane and bought the paint. I want to bring visual and have all of the materials next week. I want the children to understand the lesson. I plane to go to the library to make up hours

Post 15: The last day

.
On the last day of my Internship I presented my lesson on primary colors and secondary colors. I thought them how primary colors make secondary colors. I also took pictures and helped out with the other lesson for that day. He didn’t really do anything special just said thank you for coming, the usual stuff. I am behind in my hours but I plan to make it up before the year I out.  I will go to the library and my original internship to make up the hours.

Intro Post: How I got my WLE: Oct 26th.

I got my Internship through previous connections. I had worked for Mr. Hyden two summers ago. My mom introduced us, she help me get the job. This year I was struggling to find a WLE and I thought of Mr. Hyden. Even after I stopped working for him we were still really cool and he said he would help me out with college letters and stuff like that and I thought he would let me work for him again, and he did. I used resourceful problem solving to get a internship on time and used it by using the resource I had to get what I needed done. I have two mentors essentially, mainly JoAnn then Lisa, they both help me. I am working for Tim Hyden, and his law offices as well as recent partner Simona Zkhiname.  The offices are located in San Ramon. I will be answering phones, filling, pickup mail, helping with managing clients and creating and organizing files.

Post 1: Friday Oct. 29 2010 first day

Friday was the first day at my internship. Since I had worked there before I had a genral understanding of what I was going to be doing. I was to answers the phones to help Lisa one of my mentors, also I help Jocye, the other women that helps on Fridays,  with filing. I filed all day. The day was good, it was good to see Joanne again, she is my main mentor. She is hilarious. I think she was happy to see me in the office again, at least that is what she told me when i got there. I think I will need help with the phones because they got new high tech ones that are confusing to use. That is going to be hard to use. I was generally busy the whole time but there were two times that he was meeting with clients and we couldn't get into the office to file so I had to wait around for a bit. I cant think of any questions to ask her, I already pretty much know what I have to do there. Nor do I have any questions for Ms. B my academic adviser.

Post 3:

My WLE severs people, more specifically Family's and estates. My mentor is a family lawyer and dose estate planning, like tursts. My workplace really works well when working to get things done and managing a large variety of different client's with all different circumstances and needs. Even though we as office people have a lot to do, we still make time with client on the phone and insure proper interaction with clients. We also make sure all our documents are correct and filed correct so no misunderstandings or communication occurs. A weakness that the office has is that sometimes there aren't enough staff to get everything done, and it creates a stressful environment. Specifically for me I can only file ad answer phones I can't help with the typing of documents.

POST 4: Friday Dec. 10th, Leadership Skills

  1. Some of the leadership skills I am currently using at my WLE are complete projects effectively, collaborate Productively and communicate powerfully. I have to work with others in the office to know what I have to do and whats already been done, as well as knowing how to talk to clients and ask pertinent questions. I also have a lot to do during the day I have to manage my projects or the things needed doen, what i should do first or what order I should do first.  The skills I am developing is communicate powerfully, I am getting better at talking and descibing my ideas or whatever we are talking about that pertains to the office and its work. How to talk to adults with power and how to sway others to either help me or better understand me. Skill's I have used at my WLE that i learned at school is collaborate productively. I know how to work with others and get things done in a reasonable time. The role as a student is different then the role as a intern by the intern having more responsibility then their school own work unlike a student and they have to be a lot more professional and know how the manganese talking and working with professional adults.

Post 5:Friday Dec. 17th, Hours and Project

  1. Today I filed and answered phones as usual, both my mentors answered phones and worked on officially documents because i had the phones covered and was able to maintain a good office space. One of the attorneys have a difficult case which is hard to file and keep track but I managed to sort out discovery and pleadings for two different case numbers. I am currently ahead of my hours, I have about 10 extra because I came in during the winter break. My essential questions is; How can I demonstrate and help my peers with career  choice by demonstrating the difference between law school and actually practicing law? I plane to go to my mentors class and take picture as well as pictures of the office.

POST 6:  Mentor Interview

POST 7:  How my WLE project is going

  1. This week I was alone on the Riordian/Hyden/Zhakim side. Lisa forwarded their calls to her phone but I answered Riordian phone. It was a pretty relax day, the phones weren't to busy and not many people came in. I filed as well. I am going to teach my peers about the diffrence of law school and actual practice. There are huge difference that students should know so they chose a good career and not one they will hate later on.  I plan to go to a class with my mentor Lisa and take notes on what law school is as well as planning how to demonstrate my previous knowledge of actual practice and whats its like to run a law business. There are multiple aspect that go into practicing law when a lawyer.   I am not behind hours, actually have an extra 10.
